Bruce was born and raised in and around the Eckville, Alberta area. He spent most of his time at his grandfather's ranch outside of Caroline, Alberta. It was during this time that Bruce grew to have a love and appreciation for horses.
As Bruce grew older he became involved in the rodeo world and became an avid competitor in the calf roping and team roping. Bruce started and trained many of his own horses and valued the partnership that was required. A knee injury ended Bruce's rodeo career and it was than that he took an even greater interest in working with horses.
Attending different clinics and taking advantage of opportunties to work with and observe great horsemen has greatly influenced Bruce. Not only with regard to his training methods, but to his everyday life and relationships. Bruce has learned that the horse is ultimately the teacher.
